YOTA Subregional Camp Baunatal 2024

What is YOTA?The Youngsters On The Air programme is an initiative of the IARU with the aim of bringing young radio amateurs together and promoting their activities and projects.
What is a Subregional Camp? The Subregional Camp is a meeting for young radio amateurs who want to get to know people of the same age and interests.
Whether it is radio operation, contesting, antenna construction, soldering or programming, there will be something for everyone.
Camp sounds like camping...As the camp takes place in October, all participants will be accommodated in double rooms in the Hotel Stadt Baunatal, about 2km from the DARC amateur radio centre.
The address is:
Wilhelmshöher Str. 5, 34225 Baunatal
Double room with whom?Nobody wants to be put in a room with strangers. Unfortunately, there is no other way in this case. In any case, we will discuss the room allocation with the people involved.
What does the camp cost? The IARU and the DARC are sponsoring the event. The participation fee is therefore only 50 euros, including accommodation and meals.
You will have to organise your own travel and drinks will be provided at cost price.
I have no carBus Nr. 51 runs every 30 minutes from Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe Railway station directly to the hotel (Stop: Altenritte-Hotel). Ein Ticket costs 3,90 €.
In addition, there will be a ‘Who else is coming’ list on which carpooling opportunities can be offered or sought.
I live nearbyIf you do not need a hotel room, please let us know when you register. We will gladly give the free sleeping place to another participant.
What is done at the camp? The main purpose of the camp is to get to know each other. To break the ice, we have a few fixed programme items:
  • What does YOTA do?
  • Who are the participants?
  • Explanation of the tasks of the DARC office
  • Guided tour of the QSL sorting centre
  • How the CQ DL is created
There will also be a number of workshops organised by the young people taking part.
Workshop?Don't worry. We don't want to solder a flashing light for the 100th time or bore you with lectures on topics that don't interest you.We want you to be able to do the things at the camp that are exciting for you, together with the others. You can choose whether you want to hold a workshop yourself or prefer to have the freedom to choose where you ‘stick your nose in’, so if you have a topic that you are well versed in and would like to show other people at the sub-regional camp or work on together with them, please indicate this when you register so that we can prepare it.you are also welcome to indicate other ideas for activities when you register. We will check what we can realise.
What kind of topics are these?Everything that has anything to do with amateur radio. So far, for example, we have received messages for
  • Radio operation at the station in the DARC HQ
Other ideas could be: Radio operation via Es'Hail-2, HamNet, programming, FT-8...
What else?In short: seat cushions, soldering irons and plenty of space for your own ideas.
After all, this event is all about getting to know new people with the same interests.
Who should go there? The camp is primarily aimed at young DARC members between the ages of 14 and 26 who have not yet made any contacts through the local association.
If you are thinking ‘What am I supposed to do there, I don't know anyone’ when it comes to visiting a youth field day, then the sub-regional camp is the right place for you, because here you will meet people with the same interests.

We also welcome registrations from young people from abroad, as the hobby of amateur radio does not stop at national borders.
However, you must be able to travel and have a reasonable knowledge of German, as the workshops will be held in German.

As we only have 30 places, we will have to filter the registrations:

Those who are already well networked and known from other events will only get a place if a workshop is also being held.
We also cannot accept registrations from entire youth groups. Please select 1-3 people to represent your group and tell us how things are going for you.

That all sounds good, but...

...I am not a DARC memberAs the programme is sponsored by the IARU, we can only admid members of an IARU-member association (DARC, ÖVSV, SSA, VERON, UBA...).
...I am under 18The camp is supervised by experienced youth group leaders and holders of the ‘Juleica’. If you are over 14 and your parents are in agreement, you may take part.
Please note that we take the youth protection laws seriously and will not tolerate you using the event for an alcohol-related crash.
...I am under 14Of course, we don't want to exclude anyone because of their age. There are a few points that we need to discuss with your parents.
Please contact us directly so that we can get in touch with your parents and discuss your participation.
...I am a YLThen you should come to the camp and show the guys that amateur radio is not just a man's hobby ;-)
Of course you will be allocated a room together with another YL. If this is not obvious from your name, please give us a hint in the ‘First name’ field.
...I am queer

Well, you're certainly not the only person there...

Seriously:
If someone has a problem with this and pushes you in any way, our trained support team will sit down with the person and explain that this is just as normal as everything else.

...I'm not much of a meat eaterIf you let us know when you register, we will take this into account.
...I don't have a callsign yetNo problem, you can also take part as an SWL and if there is enough interest, we can even carry out an SWL test and you will receive a DE licence plate.
...what about alcohol? We take the Youth Protection Act seriously and do not serve alcohol. However, we cannot prohibit people aged 16 and over from drinking alcohol in their free time (e.g. in a cosy hotel room).Nevertheless, the usual rule for youth field days applies: if you throw up, you can pack up afterwards.
...I still have questionsIf there is anything unclear, write a message to ajw(at)darc.de
...I don't know anyone thereThen it's high time...
So put down:
