Almost all contests also offer a CW class or have a special date for a CW part.
But what is the problem for a CW beginner?
The speeds are often so high (sometimes 25 WPM is already very slow, there is almost no
upper limit) that you throw in the towel in frustration and stop trying CW in contests.
After the overwhelming success with slow CW at the DARC training contest the question
arose among both the organisers and the participants: is once a year enough?
Anyone can do SSB/speak, usually at a high speed.
But CW?
Where can I practise this in a contest? Is once a year enough? Of course not.
That's why the DARC Referat Contest has decided to offer a regular CW training contest.
In terms of dates, it will join the other new DARC short contests (RTTY, FT4)
and will take place once a quarter. The rules are based on other DARC contests
so that the acquired skills can be applied immediately.
The speed in this CW contest should be moderate and will certainly start
at 12 WPM and then perhaps go up to 22-24 WPM. The pauses between the
characters should be left longer.
Of course, there will also be enough experienced CW ops available as QSO
partners for the CW newcomers at the contests.
So, if you are a newcomer, just begin to take part and if you are an
experienced CW OP, take part and make sure that the CW contests continue
to have many participants in the future!
